ROYGBIV

One of the things I love most about our apartment are our built-in bookshelves. They saved us money on not having to buy any, and I figure it goes towards the steep monthly rent instead. This took me about two hours to do after unpacking and everything - but here are our shelves.

The wreaths are from the wedding. I should probably hang those somewhere else.

nightstand project

I bought these two matching nightstands at a garage sale for $10 when I first moved to the Bay Area. I painted mine white, and gave the other one in it's very faded original paint and color to my then boyfriend, now husband to use. I wanted to repurpose them to match the other Blue/brown tones we have in our bedroom, so I bought some semi-gloss light blue paint and made it my first "home" project. Here are some pictures:

Before:

After: Not sure if I should have left the trim to have some contrast, but it's OK.

historic inauguration day

some things i will remember:
1. watching President Obama take the oath and his speech with my SF roommates
2. during the quartet: "ok, now is a good time to go poo"
3. the closing lines of Rev. Joseph Lowery's benediction: "we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around ... when yellow will be mellow ... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen."

Amen.
